Inside Out of Fear of the Phone

Do you Fear the 200 Pound Telephone?

Inside Out of Fear Part # 2

Have you ever had Telephonaphobia or Cellaphonaphobia?

Did you know that there is a huge list of phobias on the web here is a Wiki link. When I read this, I remembered a segment on Saturday Night Live back in the 80’s about phobias. Fun memories, great laughs, but lots of truths embedded in these thoughts about phobias.

Recently, I conducted a survey with 237 Premier Design Jewelry distributors, 227 females and 10 males. In this survey, I was testing the top six fears that entrepreneurs have.  The individuals who took the survey represented 81.12 percent of the sample. The top three were Fear of Rejection, Fear of Failure, and Fear of Criticism. The total survey will be revealed later this year when I finish my next book project.

Over the years I have come to see that in the world of network marketing, the phone can either be a lifeline of a massive, weighty 200 pound object of intimidation.

Isn’t it interesting how easy it is to call family and friends? On the other hand, when it comes to making sales or recruiting contacts for your business on it the phone gains 200 lbs.

How did it gain so much weight?  Fear! Fear of Rejection, Fear of Criticism and Fear of Failure.

So how do you overcome Telephonaphobia or Cellaphonaphobia?

The short answer is “just do it.” That might seem a little bit abrupt so here is a plan you can try.

Cathy Vandewater has a great article on how to overcome dear of the phone.

Here are a few ways you can overcome phone-related anxiety, and master the ancient skill of making calls:

1. Role play
2. Relax
3. Reset your self-talk
4. Fake it

Here is where I am going with my blogs. In the early part of the week, I will push out a series on Fear. In the later half of the week, I will post articles on relationships.
