The holidays are here! If you are a man reading this, particularly if you are a man of faith, Thanksgiving can be a much more meaningful holiday than it has been in years past. Why? This is one of those awesome times we teach our families and remind ourselves to always express gratitude to God for all his blessings. As a reminder, gratitude is great for our health, spirit, and relationships.
You do not need a seminary degree to understand how often the Scriptures speak of thanksgiving and an attitude of gratitude.
Be Thankful in Everything
1Thessalonians 5:16-18 TPT, reminds us:
“Let joy be your continual feast. Make your life a prayer. And in the midst of everything be always giving thanks, for this is God’s perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus.”
As men, we have the privilege of leading our families to be thankful in everything. This biblical mindset helps us shift our focus from problems and situations to being mindful of God’s power, grace, and mercy in a given situation.
Share Gratitude for each of your family members
This Thanksgiving, take a moment and look your wife, kids, and other family members right in the eyes and tell them you are grateful for them. You might also tell them one or two things you are thankful for. Dr. Jordan Peterson says many people need a word of encouragement in our connected world. So, guys, be intentional about sharing your gratitude for those closest to you. Be the man who will be a courageous encourager.
As we prepare to consume copious quantities of our favorite food and beverages, let’s do so with a thankful heart.
